After yesterdays random finish in the middle of nowhere but somewhere within an hour or two’s crawl by coach to Agra, today was Taj day.
Trying…. hard…. not…. to…. say…. it….
Oh heck, I just can’t stop myself – last time we were in Agra, we saw the Taj at sunset. This time, the plan was to get there for sunrise, but we ended up with an extra couple of hours in bed (hurrah!) because the weather was too hazy and it wouldn’t have been worth the effort.
When we did walk through the archway, the view was still hazy, but still the most incredibly beautiful sight.
We had made it! We survived India and although we didn’t quite cycle to the Taj or as far as the original itinerary suggested we would, we four cycled every bit of cycling possible.
I could bore you now with the tale of Agra; how we hung about for hours and hours, being forced to drink beer while we waited, being press ganged into Costa Coffee because it was the only means of having a pee while we waited, being taken to a marble inlaying factory to kill the time, a visit to an area of town for shopping where I had a less than pleasant experience, catching the 2100 train back to Delhi with a carriage full of schoolchildren high on life and E numbers, and arriving at our hotel about midnight when if we’d driven in the coach straight after leaving the Taj at 11am we might have made it by dinner time. But I won’t. All things that I’m sure will not happen for the next group of lucky adventurers.
No, instead I’ll leave you with this – brilliant memories of a fantastic group who had an amazing time in Rajasthan.
