I had thought long and hard about being away for my birthday. In the months leading up to N going away, I had been absolutely adamant that I didn’t want to be on my own for my birthday. Silly really when he is often away on my birthday.

But, I had provisionally booked the week off work, and so I thought I may as well make the most of it. I’ve pretty much ruled out Tunisia on my own without doing an organised tour – female solo travellers, whilst not unheard of, are not common. It will not be an easy time, and I still want to avoid the package thing.

So, I’m thinking Malta – it’s a small island, and although lone female travellers are not common there either, getting about is cheap and easy on public transport, and the hostels I’ve seen look fairly nice. Do you know what, I’m just going to go and book something instead of just talking about it a lot.
