Well, here we are. Home alone with several long lonely months ahead devoid of company (cat doesn’t count), devoid of adventure (work doesn’t count), and devoid of excitement (mowing the lawn doesn’t count). I’m spending my days at the moment trawling the internet for something to do… some kind of adventure to have. I’ve binned the idea of a cruise. To go solo, single supplements seem to be between 80% and 100% of the price, and I don’t want to ask someone to come with me (not least because I can’t take the time off from my study so being able to lounge around on a cruise ship between ports immersing myself in Marchington and Wilkinson will actually be part of the plan). The best cruise I could find was 8 nights, and stopping at Rome, Malta, Tunisia, and Marseilles which would have enabled me to visit 2 of my target 6 countries (I really am going to have to start thinking of them as a target of 5 – Israel is not on my places to go wish list at the current time) – but for just 9 hours each? No, I don’t think so (not for almost £1000 anyway!!). It’s back to the drawing board. I wonder how I would fare on a package holiday? It’s been approximately fifteen years since I last took a package holiday (to Egypt if I remember correctly; or was it Austria? One or the other – I’ve package holidayed to both) and to be honest the thought fills me with absolute dread. Forced fun, overpriced excursions and irritatingly beautiful holiday reps; to name but three issues I have. Perhaps I should look at a week in one place. Time to get back to the trawling.
