As I while away the time as Nige plays cricket on a dull Sunday, how can I help but think of all the places I want to go, and how we can put our trip together. Seems like best use of time to me…
So, here goes.
I started by jotting down all the places I wanted to go in the world, and then tried to come up with some sort of order. Playing about on RTW flight ticket internet sites showed possible itineraries and overland journeys, and the following is what I came up with (and YES, I know it’s huge, and largely not possible without a small fortune and at least 18 months of days off on our hands…)
Start in UK, fly to
– Lima, Peru. Overland to
– Cusco, Peru. Overland to
– La Paz, Bolivia. Fly to
– Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Overland to
– Sao Paulo, Brazil. Fly to
– Buenos Aires, Argentina. Overland to
– Santiago, Chile. Fly to
– Easter Island. Fly to
– Fiji. Fly to
– Auckland, NZ. Overland to
– Wellington, NZ. Overland to
– Christchurch, NZ. Fly to
– Brisbane, Aus. Overland to
– Sydney, Aus. Overland to
– Melbourne, Aus. Fly to
– Singapore. Overland to
– Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Overland to
– Penang, Malaysia. Fly to
– Phuket, Thailand. Overland to
– Koh Samui, Thailand. Overland to
– Bangkok, Thailand. Overland to
– Angkor Wat, Cambodia. Overland to
– Phenom Penh, Cambodia. Overland to
– Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. Fly to
– Hong Kong, China. Fly to
– London and home!
Clearly I’m in some kind of dream world. But, you have to start somewhere right? And you need to start from a place where the list can be pared down right?
The biggest chunk that could be taken out is the Aus and NZ leg; mainly because this could be done as a separate trip on another occasion. The only slight problem with that is that most of the RTW flight tickets seem to include Aus and NZ – presumably because going to Australia in your gap year is the thing to do?!
I’m also acutely aware that the only destination that Nige is interested in going (India) is missing. This is also because I think we will do this on another occasion, and probably before this mega trip gets done (if it ever does get done!).
Well, if nothing else, it’s the stuff dreams are made of…
